INGREDIENTS
firm tofu
garlic, minced
onions, minced
oyster sauce
mushrooms
japanese bread crumbs
egg, beaten
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cut tofu block into desire pieces
2. Beat egg and place in bowl, prepare bread crumbs on a flat plate
3. Dip tofu pieces into egg, first, then lay it on crumbs to coat it
4. Deep fry tofu pieces and set side
5. In another pan, saute garlic and onions in pan, then add mushrooms
6. Add oyster sauce, to desired taste
7. Arrange deep fried tofu on platter and pour hot sauce above it
I absolutely love this because it's easy to make and the ingredients are so cheap. One box of firm tofu will be around Php40 to 80 and that's not so much, considering that it yields a lot, anyway. Make sure to lay the deep fried tofu onto a paper towel, to drain it of the oil, because it can be a bit soggy if you are not so careful.
Actually, the real recipe for this does not really make use of oyster sauce. It makes use of a mixture of mirin and sake, but I don't have sake, so I experimented and did this instead. It's a great dish because it's easy to do, and because it is healthy. Cool tip: Add more mushrooms and onions.
