Korean Beef Stew

IMG_2554

INGREDIENTS

beef chunks or ribs
garlic, minced
onion, chopped
2 laurel leaves
ginger, sliced
1 cup soy sauce
 cup brown sugar
spring onions, chopped
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
1/4 cup sesame oil
chili flakes
salt and pepper
water

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Season beef with salt and pepper
2. Heat sesame in pan and saute ginger, garlic and onions
3. Add beef and fry until brown or tender
4. Add water and when it has evaporated, add soy sauce, brown sugar, laurel leaves and chili flakes
5. Let it simmer for awhile and keep on adding water until beef is tender
6. Serve it with toasted sesame seeds and spring onion sprinkled on top

A tip I've learned about making beef or pork tender is to pre-boil them beforehand. I remember, a few years back, when I made my first attempt to cook "Beef Stroganoff ", it tasted great but it was a struggle to chew it because it was so tough. I've always struggled with this, and I found out that you can just pre-boil the beef or pork, before actually cooking it... and this is what I did for this dish. This one's yummy, but the flavor's a little too strong, so it might be smart to pair it with potatoes (and rice, most definitely).

Happy eating!
